How to Clean a Wax Warmer: Keep Your Scentsy Warmer in Perfect Condition

Cleaning a wax warmer takes less than five minutes and makes a noticeable difference to both fragrance quality and how the warmer looks. Wax residue left in the dish over time creates a mixed fragrance base that dulls the scent of new cubes. A clean dish gives a cleaner, truer fragrance every time.

How Often Should You Clean a Wax Warmer?

As a minimum, wipe the dish each time you remove spent wax. A deeper clean every few weeks removes any built-up fragrance residue from the sides and base of the dish. If you frequently switch between very different fragrance families, a clean between them keeps the scents from muddying each other.

Method 1: Dry Cloth Wipe (Between Each Use)

Remove spent wax using your preferred method (warm disc, cool and pop, or cotton pad).
While the dish is still slightly warm, wipe the inside with a clean dry cloth or kitchen paper.
The residual warmth helps pick up any remaining wax film.
Allow to cool fully before adding new wax.

This method takes 30 seconds and is sufficient for routine maintenance between each wax change. It keeps the dish clean without any chemicals or water.

Method 2: Cotton Pad with Rubbing Alcohol (Deep Clean)

Ensure the warmer is completely switched off and fully cool.
Dampen a cotton pad with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).
Wipe the interior of the dish firmly. The alcohol dissolves wax and fragrance residue effectively.
Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
Allow to air dry completely before switching the warmer back on.

Do not use water inside the warmer dish. Water can affect the dish surface on ceramic warmers and should never come into contact with any electrical components. Isopropyl alcohol evaporates quickly and leaves no residue.

Method 3: Replacement Dish

All removable Scentsy warmer dishes can be removed for cleaning separately. If you have a warmer with a deep residue build-up, removing the dish and cleaning it separately gives you better access. Some customers keep a spare dish so they can swap for a clean one immediately and clean the used one at leisure.

Cleaning the Outside of Your Scentsy Warmer

Dust the outside of your warmer regularly with a soft dry cloth. For fingerprints or light marks on ceramic or resin surfaces, a barely damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one works well. Never submerge a Scentsy warmer in water or use abrasive cleaners. The painted and glazed finishes on Scentsy warmers are durable but not impervious to harsh cleaning products.

Replacing the Bulb

Full-size Scentsy warmers use a 25-watt candelabra bulb. If your warmer stops heating properly, the bulb may need replacing. Switch off and unplug the warmer, allow it to cool completely, then access the bulb compartment (usually through the bottom of the warmer) and replace with the correct wattage bulb. Never use a higher wattage than specified, as this will overheat the wax and damage the dish.
