How Reed Diffusers Work

Reed diffusers use a bottle of fragrance oil with a set of rattan or fibre reeds inserted in the top. The reeds draw the fragrance oil upward through capillary action and release it slowly into the air as it evaporates from the exposed reed surface. No heat or power is required. They produce a continuous, gentle background fragrance for weeks at a time.

How Wax Melts Work

Wax melts are scented wax melt cubes placed in an electric warmer. The low-wattage heat of the warmer melts the wax and releases the fragrance oils into the room. Unlike a reed diffuser, you switch a wax warmer on and off to control when fragrance is released. The scent throw is typically stronger and more immediate than a reed diffuser.

Where Reed Diffusers Win

No power, no switching on. Reed diffusers produce fragrance continuously without any action from you. They work in any location regardless of socket availability. For offices, holiday homes and rental properties, the set-and-forget nature of a reed diffuser is genuinely useful.

Subtle, background fragrance. Some people find the strength of a wax warmer too intense for certain spaces. Reed diffusers produce a quieter, more ambient level of scent that some people prefer for workspaces or bedrooms.
