As some of you might know, we’re early risers in the Wickfree household. To put it another way, we’re members of the 5AM club!
We read Robin Sharma’s well-known book, The 5AM Club, a while ago, and it’s changed our perspective on early-morning waking a lot! We use the time to meditate, work on self-development, catch up on tasks and generally kick start our day on a positive note!
The Main Benefits of an Early Start
Productivity. You have more time to focus on important tasks while everyone else is asleep – with no interruptions form little people or family members!
Increased Brainpower. Most people’s brains tend to be more alert in the morning, which means you’ll be able to think more clearly and make better decisions.
Energy. It might take a few days to kick in, but once you’re used to waking early you’ll find you have much more energy through the day!
Time to focus on YOU. With work, family, kids, pets and general chaos in our lives it feels amazing to carve out a couple of hours first thing to do something just for you. Whether that’s exercise, meditation, working on your side-hustle or just enjoying some well earned peace with a coffee and a book, YOU time is something that’s often overlooked.
5AM Club?! 5AM seems WAY too early…
You’ll probably have to commit to going to bed a little earlier – but trust us, the sacrifice is worth it! Many of us are too tired to do much productive work at night at any rate. Also, when you have a problem, sleeping on it and waking up fresh the next morning can really help!
It’s easier to get up if you’re organised the night before. Making up a simple evening and morning routine can help here.
Remember also when you’re waking up to do something for you, that you enjoy, this makes things a LOT easier. That doesn’t mean to say you can’t use the time to work – just allow yourself a little time doing something you love first!
So your morning could look a little like this:
Remember though – 5AM isn’t set in stone! Depending on your schedule and commitments an early start for you might involve getting up slightly later, at 6 or 7am, or even (eeek) earlier at 4am! The important thing is having a routine, and making the time for you.
How Early Rising can help your Hustle!
You’ve probably heard this one before::
“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
Benjamin Franklin
When you’re starting up in business on your own, perhaps juggling this alongside family commitments or another job, it’s important to make time to grow your business.
Early risers tend to be more successful because they:
- Begin their day feeling in control.
- Get a confidence boost by successfully accomplishing something right away!
- Have more willpower earlier in the day, and set the tone for the rest of the day meaning they’re less likely to become distracted.
You’d be amazed at what you can squeeze into a ‘power hour’ of work, with no distractions or interruptions – the buzz you get from knowing you’ve nailed a morning’s work is incredible too!
