It’s the second half of November and baby it’s coooold outside!!

For us November is definitely a time for staying warm and cosy, and making your home into a sanctuary from the icy weather. Christmas is just around the corner, and it’ll soon be time to get those decorations out!

We love making our own decorations in the Wickfree household.  On the darker nights when it’s a bit chilly to venture out Christmas Crafts are a great activity to do with the whole family, and our little lady Theia just loves getting involved.

November Trends In Home Decor

We love warm, rich colours and sumptuous textures and fabrics in our house in November  – think deep reds, coppers and greens and warm metallics.  For us this is best pared with winter scents with a bit of spice, like our NEW Cosy Spice (Toasted nutmeg and ginger spice with vanilla cream) or scents with a hint of musk like Cosy Cabin (Christmas bayberry, chiffon musk and crisp cedarwood).

Start a new family tradition and make your own, alternative Christmas wreath this year!

Unlike a real foliage wreath, this brilliant paper version will add festive cheer for years to come. It can also be completely customised – add baubles, ribbons, the kids’ favourite home-made decorations – the choice is yours!

What you’ll need:

• One rattan wreath (recycle an old one or pick one up from a craft shop or charity chop – we got ours from Hobbycraft for only £1.75!)
• Paper and thin card in a selection of greens and white
• Tracing paper, pencil and scissors
• Hot glue gun (again Hobbycraft have a great range – if you don’t have one of these already they’re soooo handy for crafting!)
• Scorer or blunt knife
• Coloured pencils

How to make the wreath:

1. Collect leaves to draw around (or print off designs from the internet to copy from – we love the designs from this Our Kid Things printable.
2. Trace onto thin card and cut out to make your templates.
3. Draw round the leaf templates onto the back of some green paper. Concertina the paper
   and cut out multiple leaves at once.
4. Get creative! Draw veins and details on the leafs in shades of green, and add orange or other colours to the berries and tips of the flowers. 
5. Repeat with the berry and flowers templates on white paper.
6. Score down the centre of each leaf and fold in half. Curl the flowers to give them some definition.
7. Apply a little bit of glue to the back of the leaves and stick them all around the wreath.
8. Continue building up the leaves all around the wreath, then add the berries and flowers in between.

TOP TIP – Cut out leaf or festive flower shapes from other types of paper (Christmas paper, metallic paper, foil…) to add some colour and sparkle and really personalise your wreath!
